In accordance with the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978, as amended by Act No. 07 of 1985 and Act No. 26 of 1988, Higher Educational Institutions in Sri Lanka shall establish Student Councils, Faculty Unions, and recognized Student Societies to represent and promote the interests and welfare of the student community.
At the University of Jaffna, Student Unions and Societies play a vital role in enriching university life by promoting academic, cultural, social, religious, sports, leadership, and welfare activities among students. These organizations provide opportunities for students to develop leadership qualities, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills while contributing positively to the university community and society.
The University Student Council serves as the central representative body of the students of the University and functions in collaboration with the university administration to promote student welfare, harmony, discipline, and active participation in university affairs.
Faculty Unions
Faculty Unions represent the students of their respective faculties and work towards the academic and welfare development of the student community. The following Faculty Unions are functioning at the University of Jaffna:
